UPVC Replacement Door Handles
Over time the handles on your doors will wear out and will require replacement. It is essential to match the dimensions of the handles you have previously replaced when replacing them.
The three measurements you need to examine are the top screw's location, lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to assist you.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever or lever door handle is a modern handle that can be used on replacement or new doors. This kind of handle is available in many designs and finishes. A number of manufacturers offer this type of handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The door handles made of uPVC/Composite are made of sturdy materials and are suitable for doors with multi-point locks which require a robust design. The handles are inline and they use the same screws and spindle to fix them. They can be easily installed on new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.
The handle can be positioned and angled to accommodate all users. The handle has been endurance tested to 200,000 cycles, which allows for the assurance of the quality of the finish and the performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever can also be reduced to accommodate the widest range of locks. This is particularly beneficial in doors with smaller door frames in which the cylinder is further back. A lever that is shorter can be used on doors with latches that can be activated with the thumb located on the inside.
Lever Pad
A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently from lever-type handles that are found on the majority of doors. These handles can operate from a single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two inline or offset spindles (pad). They are typically utilized on UPVC doors with double glazing. They are available in a range of finishes & variations.
The handles have been tested to at least 200k cycles and are available in various finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for its intended use.
All UPVC handle lever pads include a spindle and screws and can be mounted on the uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm allow for a larger size handle that can be beneficial in replacing a defective or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are spring-loaded, which solves the issue of door handles sagging out of their horizontal position when not in use.
It is essential to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when choosing the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement can also be referred to as 'handle centres' or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the correct handles.
Once you have the correct PZ size, you'll need to ensure that the handle lever pads and push pads are a appropriate shape to accommodate the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) approved handles you need for your doors. They are usually a square or round design with an internal lever and external push pad.
The majority of the UPVC Lever Pads that we offer are sprung. This means they can be reverted to a horizontal position after not in use instead of hanging and possibly sticking in the frame. This prevents drafts and cold air from getting into a house. It is also the case that the majority of UPVC lever pad handles are hand-operated, allowing you to install them on either side of the door.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are usually found on uPVC doors, but can also be found on other types of door. The cylinder lock is operated with a key that unlocks the cylinder's casing. This exposes pins that can be aligned to the pins in the lock, allowing them to turn the camera that rotates, opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.
Choosing the right cylinder is vitally important; this is contingent on how your door and handle are used. External doors, for instance are required to be fitted with cylinders with greater security and internal doors can be secured using a standard cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that can increase security, like anti-drill or anti bump properties.
To make sure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. If you cannot measure with the lock in position, you can remove it. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon might be susceptible to attacks like snapping locks, so it is crucial to make sure it's not too long.
Most modern cylinders are designed with anti-drill and bump resistance features that are built into their design. These features are designed to minimize the risk of attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This can to deflect attacks and keep your door safe.
There are cylinders that are constructed to resist snapping. This is a common attack on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the break line of the lock and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is much quicker and more straightforward than opening the door with a multipoint lock and leaves little evidence of a burglary, which can impede the insurance claim.
Spring Cassette
This spring cassette sits in the base of your door handle's backplate, providing a spring solution and returning the multipoint lock handles back to their original position after usage. The handles were previously equipped with no spring and would droop when the locking mechanism was removed. The addition of this simple element is one of the best methods to correct this and it is also an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from getting stuck in either closed or open position, as they aren't always simple to close manually.
These spring cassettes are specifically designed to be used with multipoint locks sprung but they won't work with multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will need to have a hole specifically cut in your backplate to allow these to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution to damaged or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles . They are fitted with a square cut out which accommodates an 8mm spindle and they are supplied individually.
